Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ (and answers)

  • A Life Letter is a personal letter written to a specific loved one which they will receive upon your passing. Your Life Letter should be timeless, loving, encouraging, and comprehensive. A guiding light for your loved one to remember you through life. A final hug and heart-to-heart conversation. An everlasting “I love you”.  This is the one letter you would want your loved ones to have if they were left with nothing else.

Your Life Letter is NOT a will. It is not a legal document, and its purpose has nothing to do with material possessions or money. Your message transcends these. Your words need to be meaningful regardless of how these things play out. We’re here to talk about more important matters.

  • Moment letters are different in that they will be opened later, as separate letters over the course of many years, at certain moments in time that you specify. Picture a box of sealed envelopes, each labeled with the point in time in which it should be opened.

As a result, they will be more specific and usually more brief, saying just want your loved ones need to hear from you in that moment.

In some moments, you might want to share wisdom or advice that can only be understood once that moment in life is reached. In others, your goal may be simply to provide comfort, or perhaps even a laugh.

  • God willing, you may live a long and happy life, and these messages you’ve worked so hard on may never be needed. At least not in the context they were written in.  This is ok, and a whole lot better than the alternative.

What do you do with the letters, you ask... That will be totally up to you, because this means you’ll be alive and able to decide. Maybe you open the letters and read through them together. You can talk to them about how you looked forward to each moment. Maybe you keep the letters private and read them to yourself. You can check whether you’re still on course and be thankful that you’re there to live each moment. Maybe you take what you wrote, translate it in to current tense, and share it as a thoughtful letter or card in each moment.

You will not look back and regret writing these letters.

  • Absolutely… Maybe you know a family facing an uncertain future where these letters might be needed sooner rather than later. Maybe you would like your parents to write letters like this to you, so you have them when they pass on. In any case, yes, you can send them a gift card to cover their access. • No. LIFE LTRS is not a writing software. Your letters are yours. You write them using whatever tools work best for you. They live with you at all times. You have full ownership and control of them. These words are too important to rely on a website for drafting and saving them. We cover writing options in detail, but LIFE LTRS is not where your letters are written.

  • No. LIFE LTRS is not a delivery service. Your letters start and remain in your hands at all times, and you choose how they should be stewarded upon your passing. We talk about options in detail in our logistics section, but LIFE LTRS is not involved in storing or delivering your letters.

  • LIFE LTRS is not a legal service. We’re here to talk about matters of the heart. Property, possessions, money, custody, and anything else that can be governed by a court of law are out of scope.
